Evangel at C-SC
When: Noon Saturday
Where: Ellison Poulton Stadium, Canton, Mo.
2019 records: Evangel -- 8-3 (3-2 Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division). C-SC -- 6-5 (4-1 Heart North Division).
The series: Evangel leads 29-4 and has won five straight and 11 of the last 12 meetings.
Last meeting: Sept. 21, 2019 -- Evangel 16, C-SC 14. The Wildcats lined up for a potential game-winning 46-yard field goal with 30 seconds left in regulation, but a fumbled snap cost them the opportunity to upset the 14th-ranked Crusaders. C-SC trimmed a 16-7 deficit to two points with Chauncey Garrison's 4-yard TD run with 4:10 to play and then forced a three-and-out to set up the last drive.
Extra points: The Wildcats have had a chance to upset a nationally ranked team in each of the last two meetings with the Crusaders, only to have issues on field-goal attempts in the final minute of regulation both times. Reversing that trend will take maintaining possession.
C-SC committed six turnovers in last year's game and four in the loss in 2018.
This team is better equipped to eliminate mistakes as well as overcome them with a starting lineup chock full of seniors. The challenge will be to maintain any momentum the Wildcats generate. Last year, C-SC scored on its first drive of the game before a punt and three turnovers followed.
Evangel is bolstered by the return of junior defensive back Athanie Leeviraphan, an honorable mention All-American who was among the nation's leaders with six interceptions, and senior running back Darrius Lee, who is a William V. Campbell Trophy nominee.
