Crash east of Wayland seriously injures two teens

WAYLAND, Mo. -- Two teens were seriously injured in a Saturday morning crash east of Wayland.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Kalan L. Robbins, 17, of Kahoka, was heading east on U.S. 136, 1 mile east of Wayland, at 6:45 a.m. when it ran off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and overturned, coming to rest on its top in a ditch.

Robbins was taken by Air Evac to University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, with serious injuries. A passenger, a 16-year-old girl from Keokuk, Iowa, was taken by Air Evac to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill., with serious injuries.

Both were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.

The patrol was assisted by the Clark County Sheriff's Department, Clark County Ambulance, and Wayland Fire and Rescue.
