NEW LONDON, Mo. -- Ralls County law officers have arrested an unspecified number of juveniles in connection with spotlighting and killing deer.

Ralls County Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie said on Monday evening deputies received a report of poaching on Route M near Lakewood Place.

Deputies found a dead doe that appeared to have one gunshot wound. The reporting party advised the deputy of a possible vehicle description and while the deputy was on the scene, a vehicle matching the description traveled past the scene.

After stopping the vehicle, officers said the juvenile occupants confirmed that they had unlawfully shot the deer from the road.

As a joint investigation with the Missouri Department of Conservation, charges for taking deer with the aid of a motor vehicle and taking deer with the aid of artificial lighting have been referred to a juvenile justice center.
