Softball roundup: Pirates squeak one out against Moberly

Hannibal 1, Moberly 0: Kylie McAfee pitched a shutout to lead the Pirates to a win in Hannibal, Mo.

McAfee allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters through seven innings.

In the second inning, McAfee gave the Pirates the boost they needed with a double that opened the inning. Two batters later, Alyssa Hart hit a sacrifice fly that allowed McAfee's courtesy runner, Emma Martin, to score and give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

Highland 9, Centralia 2: Addy Johnson collected four hits and five RBIs to lead the Lady Cougars softball team to a commanding win at home.

Johnson brought in Highland's first run in the second inning on an RBI ground ball that slipped past the Centralia shortstop.

Johnson struck again midway through the fourth inning, hitting a line-drive RBI triple to right field that extended the Cougars lead to 5-1.

In the sixth inning, Johnson put the cherry on top by blasting a three-run home run to left field and ensuring a Cougars win.

Lauren Merrell picked up the win for the Cougars (1-2). She pitched seven innings and allowed six hits and two runs while striking out five.

Marceline 12, South Shelby 0: The Lady Birds struggled early in a shutout loss in Shelbina, Mo.

Marceline's first at-bat resulted in a home run and set the tone for the game.

Marceline added another run in the first inning and three more in the second to distance themselves. Much was the same in the final three innings as South Shelby (1-5) was held scoreless.

South Shelby's Makenzie Schwieter was a lone bright spot for the Lady Cardinals, collecting two hits, one of which was a double.

North Shelby 15, Paris 0: The Raiders scored seven first inning runs en route to a convincing win in Shelbyville, Mo.

The Raiders (2-1) collected eight hits in the first inning, highlighted by Presley Stoneburner's RBI double that gave the Raiders a 6-0 lead.

Paris was unable to recover as they were held to just one hit on the day.

Natalie Thrasher earned the win for North Shelby. She pitched two innings and allowed one hit while striking out two batters.

Stoneburner finished with four hits and four RBIs to lead the Raiders.

Knox County 12, Marion County 5: Jen Hinkle collected three hits to lead the Eagles to a win on the road in Philadelphia, Mo.

The Eagles scored three runs in the fourth inning that was kick started by Kaitlin Campbell's single. The Eagles collected six total hits in the inning as they took a 4-2 lead into the fifth.

Knox County added two more runs on four hits, highlighted by a Hinkle RBI triple. Five more runs in the sixth inning gave Knox County a comfortable cushion as they cruised to a win.

Monroe City 13, Clark County 7: Lauren Youngblood singled in five of the seven innings Tuesday night to beat Clark County 13-7 in Kahoka, Mo. Youngblood had five of Monroe City's 22 hits, while Clark County finished with nine.

Monroe City scored nine of its runs in the first four innings which led to a jump start over Clark County, who trailed 9-5 at the beginning of the fifth inning.

Monroe City's pitcher Riley Quinn lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out six.

Carla Youngblood added four hits and two runs for the Panthers while Alexis Ellison and Isiabell Acklie both had two hits and two runs for Clark County.

Silex 7, Louisiana 1: The Bulldogs allowed five late runs in a loss on the road to Silex.

Silex scored five of its seven runs in the sixth inning thanks in part to two Bulldog errors and two walks.

Caitlyn Gloe led Louisiana with two hits.
