NEW LONDON, Mo. -- The Ralls County Sheriff's Department arrested a Hannibal man in connection with a burglary early Wednesday in rural New London.

William A. Charlton III, 29, was charged Friday in Ralls County Circuit Court with one count of burglary in the second degree and one count of tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree.

The sheriff's department said the burglary involved the theft of two ATVs, a large amount of fishing equipment and miscellaneous farm equipment.

As a result of their investigation, deputies on Thursday located and recovered most of the stolen items, which had been hidden throughout Ralls and Marion counties. Deputies also recovered another ATV that had been stolen Aug. 5 from a different home in Ralls County.

The sheriff's department said Charlton will remain in jail until he can post bail, which has been set at $50,000 cash only.
