Inmate dies in Marion County Jail

PALMYRA, Mo. -- The Marion County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of an inmate in the county jail.

Larry K. Baker Jr., 51, was found unresponsive in his cell at 7:10 a.m. Thursday. Correctional staff began administering life-saving measures to Baker, who was alone in his cell, and Marion County Ambulance responded and assisted.

The Marion County coroner was called and pronounced the time of death at 7:26 a.m.

Baker has been held since Feb. 22 as a pre-trial detainee on charges of kidnapping and terrorizing both in the first degree, stemming from a Feb. 21 incident. On Tuesday, Baker was charged with aggravated assault, domestic assault and kidnapping with no bond by DeSoto County, Miss.
