SEDALIA, Mo. -- Kanon Kendrick was familiar enough with the golfers sitting near the top of the Class 1 state tournament leaderboard to know it wouldn't be easy to make a charge.
It didn't stop the South Shelby junior from trying.
Kendrick shaved three strokes off his opening round score during Tuesday's second round at Sedalia County Club and finished fifth with a 26-hole score of 151.
Kendrick shot a 2-over 74 in the second round.
Miller's Presten Richardson had the low round of the day, shooting a 2-under 70 to move to the top spot and earn the individual state championship with a 142, six strokes ahead of the rest of the field.
Van-Far finished third as a team with a 692 total.
Louisiana's Remington Feldewerth improved 10 strokes and finished at 196.
In the Class 2A tournament at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo., Palmyra improved five strokes and posted a 715 but finished fifth as a team.
Kansas City St. Pius X won the state championship with a 678.
Brock Bollin fired an 85 for Palmyra and finished tied for 27th with a 174. The Panthers' Jacob Webster was one of four golfers to tie at 174.
Highland's Dalton Klocke posted a 179 to finish tied for 39th.
At the Class 3 tournament at Columbia Country Club, Hannibal's Preston Bennett shot a 163 and finished tied for 38th.
