MOLINE, Ill. -- The championship showdown is set.

Hayley Milhauser scored in the 18th minute Tuesday night and the Quincy High School girls soccer team put the clamps on Rock Island Alleman to score a 1-0 victory in Western Big Six Conference play.

"We had some other chances to score, but we played well against a physical and aggressive team," QHS coach Travis Dinkheller said.

It was enough to keep the Blue Devils (5-5-3, 3-0-1 WB6) in control of their fate.

Quincy will face Moline (3-0-1 WB6) at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday at Flinn Stadium for the WB6 championship. The winner will be the outright champion, but should the teams tie and United Township beats Rock Island, there could be a three-way tie for the title.

A lot has to fall in place for that to happen.

For now, a team that started the season with just one victory in its first six games is in position to repeat as conference champion. A familiar foe stands in the way.

"We started to see what we're capable of tonight and hopefully we can build off that going into next week and at Quincy," Moline coach Jonathan Dreasler told the Moline Dispatch after the Maroons beat Rock Island 4-0.

Quincy peppered a stingy Alleman defense in much the same way, but Pioneers keeper Billi Fleck continually denied the Blue Devils. She made six saves before being pulled in the 69th minute because of an injury.

"Billi did an awesome job in net," Dinkheller said. "Alleman did an excellent job of not breaking. There were times that we had massive advantages but the defense limited quality looks. After a few of her saves, we knew we were in for a battle."

Quincy scored in the 18th minute on a nice give-and-go play between Milhauser and Emma Kroeger. After several nifty passes, Milhauser launched a one-timer from about 20 yards out for the only goal of the game.

Dinkheller said he was pleased with the effort that has changed the Blue Devils' season.
