EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The Quincy University baseball team's five-run lead disappeared Sunday evening at the USI Baseball Field.

So did its seven-game winning streak.

Southern Indiana rallied over the final five innings to beat 12th-ranked Quincy 8-7 to avoid a three-game series sweep in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

QU (27-8, 19-5 GLVC) took a 7-2 lead into the fifth inning after Carter Naughton's RBI double scored TJ Tamaccio, but the Screaming Eagles rallied.

Southern Indiana used a two-run single by Lucas McNew in the fifth to cut the deficit to three runs before erupting for a four-run sixth inning.

In the sixth, Aaron Euler doubled to right and an error on the play scored Manny Lopez to make it 7-5. Zach Pate drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-6 before the tying run scored on a passed ball. Southern Indiana scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

QU had only three baserunners after the sixth inning, and only freshman Lance Logsdon made it into scoring position. Jeff Hightower grounded out to shortstop with the tying run at first base.

Quincy left-handed pitcher Aaron Stone rallied after allowing two runs in the bottom of the first inning before allowing two more in the fifth. He was chased in the sixth inning after the Screaming Eagles tied the game.

Stone allowed six runs on eight hits across five-plus innings, while striking out seven and walking two.

The Hawks' offense rallied after trailing 2-1 after the first inning. Tamaccio homered in the second to tie the game at 2, while Cody Birdsong drew a bases-loaded walk before Hightower drove a two-run single into left to score Chandler Purcell and Nolan Snyder for a 5-2 advantage.

Logsdon's RBI single in the third made it 6-2 before Naughton's double in the fourth.

Birdsong smacked a solo home run in the first inning to give QU a 1-0 lead, but Southern Indiana responded with Nathan Keuster's two-run shot in the bottom of the frame.

Logsdon finished with four hits and an RBI, while Naughton had three hits and an RBI for the Hawks. Hightower had two runs and drove in two runs.
