PETERSBURG, Ill. -- Three wrestlers from Central and two from Pittsfield advanced on Friday to the semifinals in their respective weight classes at the Class 1A PORTA Sectional.
At 113 pounds, Central's Zach Foote also received a first-round bye, then defeated Leroy's Ethan Matlock when Matlock couldn't start the second period because of an injury. Foote (36-2) will meet Cameron Clark from Illini Bluffs in a semifinal.
At 145 pounds, Central's Jonathan Foote pinned Knoxville's Eric Brock in 1:04, then pinned Deer-Creek Mackinaw's Wade Wiegand in 3:22. Foote (26-13) will meet Clinton's Christian Reynolds in a semifinal match.
At 152 pounds, Central's Clayton Boehler received a first-round bye, then decisioned Knoxville's Zack Dean 5-1. Boehler (32-4) meets Leroy's Ty Baxter in a Saturday morning semifinal.
Pittsfield's Elliott Fox is in the semifinals at 195 pounds after pinning Knoxville's Mason Reed in 46 seconds and Clinton's Brett Reeves in 2:35. Fox (32-11) meets Stanford Olympia's Evan Gaither in a semifinal on Saturday.
Pittsfield's Nate Hoover also advanced to the semifinals at 220 pounds, pinning Tremont's Jake Barnewolt in 3:01 and winning 9-7 in overtime against Farmington's Broc Shymansky. Hoover meets Garrett Wright of Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in a semifinal.
At 106 pounds, Quincy Notre Dame's Curtis Steinkamp received a first-round bye, then lost to Auburn's Gage Lopez by a 5-0 decision. Steinkamp (28-7) will meet Macomb's Jack Mansfield in Saturday's wrestlebacks.
At 120 pounds, Central's Conner Hughes received a first-round bye, then lost 11-1 to Ridgeview's Coby Windle. Hughes (36-3) will meet Beardstown's Godwin Sodjedo on Saturday morning.
At 126 pounds, Central's Trevor Bonk pinned Petersburg Porta's Jonah Sinclair in 1:59, but he was pinned by Mercer County's Noah Miller in 4:26. Bonk (35-9) will meet Chillicothe IVC's Mitchell Connor in the wrestlebacks.
At 132 pounds, Central's Evan Myers received a first-round bye, then lost a 7-5 decision to Dakota Matthews to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in the quarterfinals. Myers (32-8) will wrestle Saturday against Stanford Olympia's Lucus Lawless.
Also at 132 pounds, Illini West's Lance Belshaw won a 12-1 decision over Lawless, then was pinned in the quarterfinals by Auburn's Caleb Nix. Belshaw (18-8) will face Farmington's Kyle Peckham in the wrestlebacks.
At 138 pounds, Central's Chayse Houston received a first-rond bye, then lost 3-2 to Auburn's Cam Lee in the quarterfinals. Houston (16-3) will meet Kewanee's Draven Crain in the wrestlebacks.
Also in the 152-pound bracket is Quincy Notre Dame's Sam Schlegl, who was pinned by Jake Sinclair from Petersburg PORTA in 4:00. Schlegl (20-17) meets Knoxville's Dean in Saturday's wrestlebacks.
Illini West's Santos Castillo pinned Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley's Braylen Kean in 4:50 in his first-round match at 160 pounds, then was pinned in 3:36 by Knoxville's Rueben Cantu. Castillo (24-8) meets Caleb Smith of Mercer County in the wrestlebacks.
Also at 160 pounds is Pittsfield's Mason Davis, who lost 6-2 to Warrensburg-Latham's Davis Brumbaugh in the first round. Davis (22-21) meets Mike Arnold from Chillicothe IVC on Saturday morning.
Central's Logan Tullock received a first-round bye at 170 pounds, then was pinned in 1:40 by Jacob Daniel of Midwest Central. Tullock (18-23) meets Macomb's V.J. Lane in the wrestlebacks.
Also at 170 pounds is Pittsfield's Zane Phillips, who was pinned by Gervasio Marchizza in 3:22 in the first round. Phillips (14-24) meets Deer-Creek Mackinaw's Keyth Frisby in Saturday's wrestlebacks.
Pittsfield's Blaine Dell (16-22) was pinned in 3:00 by Eureka's Conner McDonald in the first round at 182 pounds. Dell meets Beardstown's Christian Zuniga in the wrestlebacks.
Quincy Notre Dame's Sam Hea lost his first match at 195 pounds by pin to Peoria Manual's Semaj Owens. Hea (14-15) meets Connor Barnes from Peoria Heights in the wrestlebacks.
Central's Trevor Rutledge lost his first match at 285 pounds by pin to Heyworth's Joe Lauterberg in 3:05. Rutledge will face Tremont's Aaron Wagenbach on Saturday morning.
