EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The discombobulated start the Quincy University women's basketball team experienced Saturday afternoon never really evened out.

The Hawks turned the ball over on three of their first four possessions, went scoreless during the final five minutes of the first quarter and wrapped up a four-game Great Lakes Valley Conference road trip with a 75-49 loss to Southern Indiana at the Physical Activities Center.

"We never got comfortable," QU coach Jeni Garber said. "We have to be the aggressors. We have to make them adjust to what we're doing, not us always adjusting to what an opponent is doing."

The Hawks (4-11, 2-4 GLVC) didn't adjust very well.

The Screaming Eagles played man-to-man defense and switched on every screen instead of the defender going over or under the screen. The Hawks struggled against that, shooting 26.4 percent from the field and committing 24 turnovers.

"We were rushed a lot," Garber said.

Southern Indiana wasn't.

The Screaming Eagles (11-4, 4-1 GLVC) closed the first quarter with a 13-0 run, and then went on another 13-0 run in the second quarter that pushed the advantage to 38-14 with three minutes left in the first half.

"We can't spot them points and allow them to go on runs like that," Garber said. "We play a little too passive until we get down. I don't know why."

Southern Indiana shot 50 percent from the field, outrebounded Quincy 46-30 and had 20 assists on 31 field goals. It culminated with a 32-10 advantage in points in the paint.

"We never responded," Garber said.

Aleksandra Petrovic led the Hawks with 10 points. QU had just 14 field goals.

"We had no rhythm," Garber said.

The Hawks hope to rekindle some when they return to Pepsi Arena to face Maryville at 5:15 p.m. Thursday for the start of a four-game homestand.

"At least we're at home," Garber said. "That has to help."
