QUINCY -- Two Quincy attorneys have been assigned to represent a Quincy man charged in the 2015 shooting death of a man on the city's northwest side.

Drew and Casey Schnack made their court appearance with Steven E. Gavin on Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court.

Gavin's case was set on the January jury trial docket, and he will be back in court on a status hearing on pending motions Nov. 28.

Gavin, 56, faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery in the Nov. 23, 2015, shooting death of Carlous Wires. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Judge Robert Adrian ruled Oct. 15 that Gavin, who was represented by Public Defender Chris Pratt, should receive new counsel to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest in the case. Gavin is accused of killing Wires over a disagreement about a drug purchase.

Gavin has been held in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond since his May 1, 2017, arrest.
