QUINCY -- A Missouri woman accused of trafficking methamphetamine into Quincy has pleaded not guilty to charges.

Court records show that Darlene B. Elles, 39, of Benton City, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court to charges of methamphetamine trafficking; possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine; unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, hydrocodone; and unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, oxycodone.

Her case was placed on the September jury trial docket. She is to appear in court Aug. 15 for a status hearing.

Elles was arrested May 8 along with Anthony L. Hutton, 37, of Hannibal, Mo., after officers with the West Central Illinois Task Force said they were conducting surveillance near the 900 block of Jefferson when the pair arrived in a 2007 Dodge Nitro. Police said officers made a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was driven by Elles, and Hutton tried to flee on foot. He was arrested after a short foot chase.

Police said they found more than 50 grams of methamphetamine ice and a large amount of oxycodone in the car.

Elles is being held in the Adams County Jail on $100,000 bond.

Hutton faces the same charges as Elles. He pleaded not guilty June 20, and his case was placed on the August jury trial docket.

Hutton is also being held on $100,000 bond.
