Merlin and Lucinda Kunz of Hewitt, Texas, formerly from Loraine, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house "hors d'oeuvres" reception, hosted by their children, from 2 to 5 p.m. July 21 in the lower level at Zion United Church of Christ, 107 Smith St., Ursa.
Mr. and Mrs. Kunz were married July 20, 1968, at Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga.
Mrs. Kunz is the former Lucinda Wollbrink, daughter of the late George H. and Lucille (Henze) Wollbrink of Mendon. Mr. Kunz is a son of Elberta (Wilson) Kunz and the late Harold P. Kunz of Sutter.
They have two children, Kimberly Caster and her husband, Gunnar, of Quincy and Matthew Kunz and his wife, Wendy, of Hewitt. They have two grandsons.
Mr. Kunz is a graduate of Canton Community College. He farmed and raised livestock for several years and worked as a stationary engineer at the Illinois Veterans Home for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He is a life member of the Twin Oaks Club, Lima Lodge No. 135, Quincy Consistory and Ansar Shriners of Springfield, life member of Illinois State Rifle Association and is an endowment life member of NRA and the Farm Bureau. He grew organic vegetables for the family and to sell at the farmers market. He also enjoys hunting, trapshooting and cooking.
Mrs. Kunz is a graduate of Western Illinois University and was a teacher at Unity High School in Mendon for 32 years and part time at John Wood Community College for eight years.She enjoys crafts, especially quilting, needlework and restoring family antiques.
They are members of Bethany United Church of Christ in Tioga, where they met as children in Sunday school. They also belong to the Bear Creek American Legion and Auxiliary and the Great River Corvette Club. Over the years, they have been involved in dancing with the Gem City Outlaws and Bootkickers. Since retirement, they have traveled, taking several cruises.
