HANNIBAL, Mo. -- Northeast Missouri and west central Illinois will be flooded with baseball talent this weekend.

Hannibal Hoots general manager Matt Stembridge, who also is a part owner of Prospect Select, a company that hosts baseball tournaments across the country, is running the Quinsippi Invitational June 14-17. The tournament will be 18U and 16U tournaments featuring 33 high school baseball teams from Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Indiana and Nebraska. Games will be played at QU Stadium, Clemens Field, John Wood Community College, Quincy Notre Dame and Culver-Stockton College.

"We have two Midwest tournaments, and this will be our first one," Stembridge said. "There's basically two age tournaments going on."

Several local teams will be competing in the tournament like Complete Game, Hannibal American Legion Post 55, Missouri Bulldogs, Team Pepsi and Bross Construction.

A prospect showcase kicks off the tournament Thursday morning at QU Stadium. The top 60-70 players in the tournament will participate in the showcase in front of college coaches.

"We attract colleges from across the country," Stembridge said. "I'd be happy if we had 20 or 25. It's a big recruiting event. We try to get kids exposure."

Stembridge says if the tournament runs smoothly, he'll likely bring it back next year.

"That's my plan," he said.
