OMAHA, Neb. -- Luke Guthrie's Friday round of the web.com Tour's Cox Classic started ominously when he double bogeyed the par-4 first hole at Champions Run in Omaha, Neb. The Quincy native didn't let that opening hole affect him. Guthrie birdied 10 of the final 17 holes to shoot a round of 8-under, and he leads the event on the PGA Tour's developmental tour at 17-under overall after 36 holes. Guthrie, who finished second at last week's web.com Tour event and is seeking his first professional win, is three shots ahead of Tag Ridings. Brian Stuard is third at 13-under. Four others are at 12-under. Guthrie, a University of Illinois product, has double bogeyed No. 1 in each of the first two rounds. Yet he also has 22 birdies in 36 holes. Guthrie made the turn Friday at 1-under before catching fire on the back nine. He birdied each of the final four holes. For the second straight day, Guthrie birdied each of the course's three par-5s. Guthrie shared the lead after Thursday's Round 1 with two others at 9-under. -- sports@whig.com/221-3365
