PLEASANT HILL, Ill. -- Mounted Angels Therapeutic Horsemanship begins its 23rd year of riding lessons Thursday in Pleasant Hill.

Mounted Angels volunteers offer free therapeutic horsemanship lessons to children with disabilities. Riding lessons will be held on Thursday evenings during June and July except during the Pike County Fair.

A volunteer orientation session begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Pike County Fairgrounds. The first riding lesson will be held immediately following the volunteer training.

Anyone 15 years old and older can volunteer with the program. Training will be provided on working safely with horses and children.

Participants must complete required forms before being able to ride, and forms need a physician's signature.

People interested in volunteering or who know of a child with a disability who could benefit from the program may call Martha Sheppard at (217) 829-4409 for more information.
