Six people rescued after boat capsizes
Published: 8/4/2012 | Updated: 5/18/2013

Six people were rescued by a civilian boat Friday evening after their watercraft capsized on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River.

Five Hannibal Fire Department firefighters responded to the call around 6:30 p.m., and two went out in a rescue boat to check on the six people after their boat "flipped over," assistant fire chief Jeff Frame said.

No other boats were involved in the accident and no one was injured.

Another boat came to picked up the stranded boaters before firefighters arrived. Once they were sure the boaters were safe, the firefighters assisted by bringing the capsized boat to shore and tying it to a dock. From that point Missouri Highway Patrol took over the situation, Frame said.
