For 85th birthday
Published: 8/5/2012 | Updated: 6/17/2013

Birthday thanks

To The Herald-Whig:

I'd like to give a big thank you for the wonderful celebration for my 85th birthday on July 7 and 8.

First, thank you to my daughters, Mary K. Cowan of Green Castle, Mo., and Susan L. Hammar and son-in-law, Thomas Hammar of Moline, and also my grandchildren.

The party was held at the farm of Mary K. Cowan near Greencastle, Mo. They had wonderful food including birthday cake and two freezers of homemade ice cream. I appreciate relatives and friends from coming Quincy, Payson and Kirksville, Mo., driving in the 100-degree temperatures. On Sunday morning we attended a brunch at Thousand Hills State Park Dining Lodge at Kirksville.

Thanks for everyone who sent flowers, gifts, made phone calls, and sent the many cards. I truly feel blessed and I pray that God's blessings be plentiful for all of you.

Anniversary thanks

To The Herald-Whig:

First of all, we thank our awesome God, for bringing us together, 50 years ago. Then he blessed us with two boys and later their wives and eventually five grandchildren, all of whom hosted our open house at The Crossing.

Our deep gratitude does to their labor of love in allowing us to share our day with all of them, as well as our friends, sisters and brothers in Christ, relatives and their capturing our day through pictures of which we'll cherish forever, as well as the abundance of emails, cards, phone calls, gifts, guestbook greetings, our family meal Saturday night (July 28) and most special hugs and tears shared with many precious ones, throughout it all.

We will forever remember this day.

Thanks for the change for Special Olympics

To The Herald-Whig:

"Spare Change for Real Change" for Special Olympics Illinois was held statewide on Friday, July 20, 2012 â “ the 44th anniversary of the beginning of Special Olympics.

Quincy Police Department personnel and volunteers from the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association were at the intersections of 18th and State and 24th and Harrison collecting money for Special Olympics Illinois.

Thanks to all who donated to this great cause, $6,000 was raised in only three hours. We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support we received from the community and appreciate every coin and bill that was collected.

Fundraiser was

a success

To The Herald-Whig:

We wish to say thank you to a very generous and caring community.

Spirit Knob Winery was the setting for a wonderful event on June 30 to raise money for St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. Raised on Radio provided musical entertainment for the evening hosted by Beta Zeta Chapter of Epilson Sigma Alpha.

We want to especially thank our sponsors: JK Creative Printers, Hess Auto Agency, Carl's Shoes, KHQA and Spirit Knob Winery.

These sponsors and the people who attended the event helped us to raise $3,000 for the hospital. Many local children have been treated at St. Jude and events like this help to spread awareness of the hospital. There is never a charge for children to be treated there.

Our event next year will be on June 29. We hope everyone will again come out and support us.
