Appointments Stephen Quinn has been named chairman of the board and CEO of Brown County State Bank and Philip Krupps has been named president and chief operating officer of the bank. Brown County State Bank is an affiliate of United Community Bancorp Inc., headquartered in Chatham. Quinn, the previous president of the bank since 1986, graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1968 with a bachelor's degree in economics. Krupps started with Brown County State Bank as an intern in 1997 and became an assistant vice president and investment executive in 1999. Krupps holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and a master's of business administration degree, both from the University of Illinois. In addition to complete operations oversight for Brown County State Bank, Krupps will continue to service his existing investment and lending clients. RaNae Turlington recently joined the team at Designer's Edge Day Spa Salon. She is a licensed esthetician and certified permanent makeup technician. Turlington is a graduate of the American Institute of Intradermal Cosmetics, Arlington, Texas. She has had advanced education from I.T.S. Academy. Her services include customized facials, chemical peels, skin care, microdermabrasion, full body waxing for women and men and eyebrow threading. Activities Shelly Hunter, a registered nurse and infection preventionist at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, recently completed a two-day workshop on special skills necessary to serve as preceptors for new nurses. The workshop was the first of many educational events resulting from a partnership between the Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network and the Marquette University College of Nursing in Milwaukee. Memorial Hospital is one of seven critical access hospitals in Illinois that will participate in the program, SOAR-RN, which provides the preceptor training as well as a 12-month rural nurse residency curriculum. The preceptors will guide new nurses as they transition to hospital-based practice and develop their clinical competency. Dr. Schuyler C. Metlis, plastic and reconstructive surgeon with Hannibal Regional Medical Group, has been selected to serve as vice president of the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons for 2012-13. Metlis specializes in cosmetic surgery of the face and body including face lifts, eyelid lifts, brow lifts, breast augmentation, breast lifts, tummy tucks, and post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. Metlis is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Missouri Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Quincy University Assistant Professor and Counseling Program Director Ken Oliver and Kelli Oliver, a high school guidance counselor for the Canton (Mo.) R-V School District, were recently published in the spring 2012 edition of "The Counseling Interviewer," the refereed journal of the Missouri School Counselor Association. The article titled, "Psychopathology for the professional school counselor: A call to the profession," depicts the need for increased training mandates regarding psychopathology and diagnostic criteria for school counselors. The article calls attention to the increased need for such training, particularly in the states of Missouri and Illinois. Paul Brown, chairman of the Quincy University Endowment and Planned Giving Advisory, participated in the recent St. Louis Planned Giving Council Annual Conference. The theme of the year's conference was "Real Life Philanthropy and Why It Works." Brown is a retired higher education administrator and health care executive. He has a bachelor's degree in accounting from Quincy College and a master's of business administration degree in finance from the University of Chicago. Brandon Bloodgood, senior programmer with ETC ComputerLand, recently attended the phpTek 2012 Conference in Chicago. The conference is an annual four-day event on programming technologies and topics related to the internet. While at phpTek, Bloodgood attended sessions on HTML5, CSS3, Javascript best practices and mobile application development. He has been with ETC ComputerLand for nearly six years. Lisa Delcour, a registered nurse with Adult Psychiatric Service at Blessing Hospital Behavioral Center, has earned certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Requirements for certification include two years practice in psychiatric/mental health nursing, 30 hours of education in the field and passage of the certification examination. Delcour earned her nursing degree from John Wood Community College and joined Blessing Hospital in 2009. Honors Detective Anjanette Stovall has been selected as Employee of the Month for May at the Quincy Police Department. Stovall joined the QPD on Sept. 6, 1994. She completed Basic Police Training at the Illinois State Police Academy. She received her bachelor's degree in 2008. Stovall has been a patrol officer, pro-act officer, member of the honor guard, recruiting officer and hostage negotiator. She has been a detective since 2004. Leo Zanger is celebrating 50 years in the real estate business. In 1962, Zanger started his real estate career out of his home with the help of his wife, Ruth. Today he owns and operates Zanger and Associates Inc. Realtors and has a team of 22 agents at his 1200 Broadway location. Zanger was born and raised on the family farm east of Quincy and graduated from Liberty High School. He has mentored many agents in his 50 years in business and has helped thousands of clients with their real estate needs. Southern Illinois University Quincy Family Medicine has announced its Employees of the Month for May and June. Teresa Young, reception, is the May honoree, and the June award goes to Deb Guthrie, phone center. KICK-FM's Doc Holliday was named as the Small Market Radio DJ of the Year at Missouri Broadcasters Association annual meeting June 1-2 at the Lodge of the Four Season in Village of Four Seasons, Mo. He began his radio career in 1983 and has been a five-time finalist for the DJ of the Year Award and is now a three time winner. Holliday can be heard on 97.9 KICK-FM mornings from 6 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday. North East Community Action Corp. in-home services supervisor Brenda Maldonado and in-home aide Joyce Kemp received the "Above and Beyond Caregiver Award" during the recent Missouri Alliance for Home Care annual conference. Kemp was lauded for saving the life of client Youlanda Gilreath of Mexico. She smelled gas upon entering Gilreath's home during a regular visit and made sure the 75-year-old grandmother got out safely. Maldonado was recognized for dropping everything on a day when nothing was going right after an aide couldn't reach a client in Moberly. The man, who lived alone, had fallen and hit his head during the night, and was found dead when authorities broke down the door at Maldonado's insistence.
