Cokie and Steve Roberts column misleads readers on Palin's ignorance
Published: 6/14/2012 | Updated: 6/14/2012

To The Herald-Whig:

Just a quick observation on Cokie and Steve Roberts' column on Rob Portman as a vice presidential choice. I enjoyed the well outlined, point by point justification. I do want to challenge their choice of words in referring to Sarah Palin as "ignorant."

I know that's the talking point, but to use a byline touting association with ABC, NPR, CNN, and PBS while not being able to find computer access to check facts is quite remarkable. The punch line to the ignorant comment is the telling to us that Portman "â ¦will never claim to see Russia from his house." Of course, with proper Internet capabilities, or just the memory of a classic "Saturday Night Live" skit, the Roberts would have known that line belonged to Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin. So to call Sarah Palin ignorant for something she never said is, dare I say, ignorant.

Or if in fact they actually knew the facts but tried to slide it by their readers to bolster an argument, then the inference goes from them just being ignorant to being liars. I expect better from journalists.
