First-Team All-Area

Cheyanne Bowman

Pitcher, Sr., Payson Seymour

A first-team all-state selection for Class 1A runner-up Payson, Bowman finished the season with 500 strikeouts -- one shy of tying the IHSA record. She compiled a 31-7 record and a 0.75 ERA with xx no-hitters. She also batted .431 with two home runs and 43 RBI. Bowman tossed a one-hitter to help Payson beat Tuscola 1-0 in the 1A semifinal.

The last word: "She beat every team in the area and was a great hitter as well." -- Payson coach Karl Asbury

Bailey Couch

Catcher, Jr., Knox County

A first-team all-state selection, Couch hit .508 with two home runs and 18 RBI to help the Lady Eagles compile a 19-3 record and win the Tri-Rivers Conference. She also earned TRC's Most Valuable Player award. One of Couch's defining moments was her solo home run that helped Knox County beat Class 2 power Highland 4-2.

Kassidy Gengenbacher

Shortstop, Jr., Quincy Notre Dame

Gengenbacher batted .425 with eight home runs and 21 stolen bases. Her 60 RBI led the area and were two shy of tying QND's single-season RBI record. Gengenbacher sparked in QND's 4-1 win over West Hancock in the Class 2A Camp Point Regional championship, blasting a home run and making a couple slick defensive plays.

The last word: "Kassidy is a great all-around player. She made our lineup extremely strong." -- QND coach Eric Orne

Kindra Henze

Pitcher, Sr., Palmyra

A first-team all-state selection for the Class 2 state champion Palmyra, Henze compiled a 25-2 record and 1.00 ERA with 258 strikeouts and five no-hitters. Henze also batted .425 with two home runs and 36 RBI. She tossed a two-hitter and had the RBI in Palmyra's 1-0 win over O'Fallon Christian in a Class 2 sectional game.

The last word: "Kindra continued her dominance on the mound this season." -- Palmyra coach Joe Brandenburg

Mariah Hoke

Pitcher, Sr., Quincy High School

Hoke led the Blue Devils in most major offensive categories, and she pitched nearly every inning of every game. An honorable mention All-Western Big Six Conference selection, Hoke batted .378 with four home runs and 25 RBI. She was 18-13 in the pitcher's circle with a 3.02 ERA and 121 strikeouts.

The last word: "She was a staple in the middle of the diamond." -- QHS coach Eric Hoke

Ashley Kerfoot

Pitcher, First base, Sr., Illini West

Kerfoot, a first-team All-WCC North selection, was a key reason why the Chargers won a Class 2A regional for the first time since 2008. She batted .393 with two home runs and 50 RBI, which ranked second in the area. Kerfoot was the hero in Illini West's 5-4 win over QND, as her RBI single in the eighth inning brought home the winning run.

The last word: "Ashley is just a very dedicated athlete. She's a very strong, athletic girl." -- Illini West coach Andy Gronewold

Shelby Koehler

Pitcher/Catcher, Soph., West Hancock

Koehler led her team in batting average (.444), home runs (five), doubles (nine) and RBI (46) en route to earning first-team All-WCC South honors. She was also effective in the pitcher's circle, positing a 12-2 record and 1.76 ERA. She highlighted her season with a home run and five RBI in an 11-3 win over Griggsville-Perry on May 3.

Kristen Loos

Third base, Sr., Payson Seymour

Loos sparked the Lady Indians from the top of the lineup. The first-team All-WCC South selection batted .375 with six home runs --three of which came during the postseason -- and 29 RBI. Her lead-off home run set the tone for Payson's 4-0 win over Abingdon in the Class 1A Abingdon Sectional championship.

Arianna Rigg

Outfielder, Sr., Quincy Notre Dame

After hitting ninth for QND in 2011, Rigg moved into the middle of the lineup this season, and she delivered nicely. She led QND with a .536 average and hit five home runs and 48 RBI. She highlighted her season with a pair of home runs in a May 8 victory at Macomb.

The last word: "Ari had a tremendous senior year. Her powerful bat and arm made her one of the top outfielders in the area." -- QND coach Eric Orne

Julie Schultz

Pitcher, Sr., Highland

Schultz, a second-team all-state selection, was the driving force in the Lady Cougars' Class 2 quarterfinal appearance. She went 15-5 with a 1.07 ERA and 155 strikeouts. She batted .418 with two home runs and 25 RBI. Schultz hit a two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Highland to a 4-3 win over Brookfield in the sectional.

The last word: "She has tremendous power to all fields and really drove the ball well this year." -- Highland coach Paul Scifres

Katie Serbin

Third base, Sr., Palmyra

This first-team all-state selection batted .422 with five home runs and 22 RBI for state champion Palmyra. Serbin was even better in the field, committing just one error at the hot corner. Serbin's solo home run helped Palmyra defeat Fatima 7-6 in a Class 2 quarterfinal, and she drove in two runs in the state championship.

Carly Spalding

Shortstop, Jr., Monroe City

A first-team All-Clarence Cannon Conference selection, Spalding batted .540 with three home runs, eight triples and 27 stolen bases. She was equally as good in the field, committing just three errors. The highlight for Spalding was her 3 for 3 performance with a home run, triple and three runs scored in Monroe City's 5-1 regular-season win over South Shelby.

Torie Thomas

Pitcher/SS, Sr., Central-Southeastern

Thomas' 10 home runs led the area and broke a school record. She batted .504 and drove in 38 runs to accompany her 21 stolen bases. A first-team All-WCC South selection, Thomas also compiled a 16-11 record with a 1.90 ERA and 179 strikeouts.

The last word: "Torie was a huge asset to our team offensively and defensively and she also stepped into a leadership role this year." -- C-SE coach Amy Hildebrand

Alexis Van Nostrand

Catcher, Jr., Palmyra

A first-team all-state selection, Van Nostrand led Palmyra in nearly every offensive category. She led the area with a .559 average and hit eight home runs with 40 RBI. She also threw out 13 of 18 base stealers. Van Nostrand had two extra-base hits and scored three runs in Palmyra's 6-2 win over Pleasant Hope in the Class 2 state title.

Brooke Wellman

Pitcher/First Base, Sr., Liberty

Wellman, a first-team All-WCC South selection, led the area with 20 doubles. She batted .466 with four homers, 30 RBI and 28 steals. Wellman also went 8-6 with five saves, a 1.84 ERA and 143 strikeouts in the pitcher's circle. She earned the win in Liberty's 3-2 season-opening win over Payson, making Liberty the only WCC team to beat Payson.
