Quincy Herald Whig http://qui.live.mediaspanonlinen.com/rss/ Quincy Herald Whig en-us LeMissouri voters expect explanations, facts To The Herald-Whig: I would like to respond to the article published in your newspaper recently after Dave Spence's brief stop in New London, Mo. Allowing Dave Spence to misrepresent Gov. Jay Nixon's record while glossing over his own does a disservice to your readers and to all Missourians. What might work in a corporate sales pitch or a bank board room won't fly with Missouri voters who expect forthright explanations and straight facts. Here are a few: While political infighting raged in Washington, here in Missouri, Gov. Jay Nixon has balanced the budget every year, kept taxes low on businesses, and brought Democrats and Republicans together to find common ground and create jobs. Today, Missouri's economy is turning the corner: Missouri employers have added 35,500 jobs in the past four months. Our unemployment rate is at a 40-month low and well below the national average. Automakers Ford and GMC are making record investments in our state and creating thousands of new jobs. And what was Dave Spence up to while Governor Nixon was leading our state through tough economic times? Spence was helping run a St. Louis bank right into the ground -- a bank that took a $40 million bailout from Washington and hasn't repaid a penny of it. Spence got a loan from the bank for a million-dollar vacation home, but when the time came to vote on whether his bank would repay its bailout, Spence voted "no," a fact he spent months hiding from the public and the media. Spence even lied about his academic credentials by touting a degree he never received from a school he never even attended. Dave Spence should get his facts straight and explain where our money went. A stunning disregard for taxpayer dollars and a stunning disregard for the truth are not qualities Missourians appreciate in their public servants. Let us re-elect Jay Nixon as our governor, a man who has worked hard for Missourians for several years in many different capacities. Thank you.
