NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Mark Longo and the Quincy Notre Dame girls soccer team are one victory away from the program's fourth state championship. They're also one victory away from giving Longo something that will last forever.
Mark Longo remembers the first time the Quincy Notre Dame girls soccer team played on a turf field in a Class A state semifinal game in Naperville in 2002. During warmups, Longo had players run a drill where the players rolled the ball from 30 yards away to prepare for a shot. On grass, the ball typically stops around 18 yards away for the players to take a shot. On turf, however, the ball kept rolling. "I looked at my assistant and said, 'We're in trouble,'" Longo said
