The Herald-Whig sports staff will go beyond the field each week to find out a little more about the Quincy Gems and Hannibal Hoots

Blake Adams

6 foot 2 -- 215 -- R/R

Tarleton State -- Longview, Texas

Do you have a favorite pregame meal?

I usually don't like to eat before games, honestly. I don't like feeling heavy on the field, so I'll have something light for lunch and then eat again after the game.

Is there anything you miss about not being home this summer?

Not really. I've been doing this for a while now. It's fun to play summer ball and get out into different areas and meet new people.

Do you have a hobby outside of baseball?

I like to fish a lot. It's a lot of fun back home to go find a good hole.

Who was your role model growing up?

My dad is a big role model for me. I like to mimic myself after him. He's taught me a lot of stuff.

Brady West

5 foot 10 -- 210 -- L/R

Indiana Wesleyan -- Rockford, Ill.

Do you have a favorite pregame meal?

Probably just a nice sandwich, either from Subway or something homemade. Simple lunch meat with some mustard.

Is there anything you miss about not being home this summer?

My family. Being able to wake up and talk to my mom, my dad and my brothers every day. I'm about 4 1/2-5 hours from home, depending on traffic.

Do you have a hobby outside of baseball?

I'm a big fisherman. I've started to work my way into hunting for hog, coyote. I haven't gotten around to deer yet, but just some predators and other animals.

Who was your role model growing up?

I know everyone's answer is their dad, but my dad grew up homeless. His dad wasn't the best role model for him because he was in and out of his life, and his mom worked two jobs so she wasn't home a lot. He went from house to house, sleeping at friend's houses or at the YMCA. Now he's started his own flooring company in our hometown.
