Sherry and Gary Sparks of Quincy, formerly of Fowler, will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. June 16 at the Triple Oaks Club, 3707 Bonansinga Drive, Quincy. All family and friends are invited.
Mr. and Mrs. Sparks were married June 18, 1983, at Luther Memorial Church.
Mrs. Sparks is a daughter of Revilla Hinton of Tell City, Ind., and the late Robert Hinton. Mr. Sparks is a son of the late Kenneth and Phyllis Sparks, formerly of Quincy.
They are the parents of a daughter, Lisa Marie Sparks, and her special friend, Charles Dean Strieker.
Mr. Sparks, now retired, previously served as the director of administrative services for the City of Quincy and was a 1st Ward alderman for 12 1/2 years. He has also worked for the Illinois secretary of state and Illinois attorney general's office and was director of Quincy Public Housing. He has been active in local politics for years, has been a lifelong hunter and enjoys playing cards.
Mrs. Sparks is the public service administrator for the Quincy office of the Division of Rehabilitation Services where she previously served as a vocational counselor for the past three years. She has also been a trainer for the Quincy Area Safety Council for the past 10 years. Mrs. Sparks also worked for the Illinois Department of Employment Security, was director of community/continuing education at John Wood Community College, and was communication/development director for the Quincy Family YMCA. She is a founder and serves as president for Fowler Development Association. She previously served as vice president of the Paloma Home and Community Education for six years and served as vice president for the county HCE. She enjoys arts-related events and recently served as an evaluator for the Illinois Humanities Council Road Scholar Program.
They are members of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Fowler.
