EAST MOLINE, Ill. -- Quincy High School's Olivia Clayton took second place in the singles bracket at the Western Big Six tennis tournament on Saturday, which started in East Moline but finished indoors in Bettendorf, Iowa, because of rain.
Quincy has 13 points and has clinched at least a tie for second behind Alleman. The doubles title match will be played Monday, and the Moline team needs to win to help the Maroons catch the Blue Devils.
Clayton drew a bye, then claimed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Galesburg's Taylor Hostens. She advanced to the finals on a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Alleman's Brooke McKeown, but she lost the title match to Alleman's Lily Schoeck 6-1, 6-2.
Quincy's Haley Katenin won 6-3, 6-2 in the first round over United Township's Nicole Boodhoo but lost 6-0, 6-0 to Schoeck.
Quincy's doubles team of Natalia Fasano and Callie Nicholas took third place with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over United Township's Katlynn Hanson and Shikha Adhikari,
Fasano and Nicholas started the tournament with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Alleman's Cloie Jennings and Emma Williams. The duo then fell to Moline's Kate Schaecter and Laurin Myers 6-3, 6-2.
Quincy's Sami Santos and Chaney Wollaston lost their first match 6-4, 6-4.
