Palmyra's doubles team of Maples, Griesbaum win district title

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- The Palmyra girls tennis team won a doubles district title and had a singles player advance to sectionals in Saturday's Class 1 District 8 individual tournament.

Palmyra's doubles team of Kendra Maples and Emmy Griesbaum clinched the district championship with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Moberly's Molly Greene and Madeline Meystrik 6-1, 6-3. Maples and Griesbaum advanced to the title match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Fulton's Savannah Hart and Grace Hurt.

They started their day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Mexico's Sophie McKeown and Hannah Rogers.

Amy Bryan won three matches at No. 2 singles to advance. She beat Mexico's Julie Rothermich 6-1, 6-4, and then followed by defeateing Kirksvile's Abigail Kuttenkuler 6-1, 6-2.

She advanced to the district title after beating Moberly's Brianna Holder 6-0, 6-1. Bryan lost to Mexico's Grace Wortman 6-1, 6-1 in the final.
