Michael Mixer of Fowler, Matt Mayfield of Fowler and Jeff Steinkamp of Quincy, all USPPA pilots of ultralight aircraft, participated in a mass arrival of 40 powered paraglider pilots in the 2017 EAA AirVenture Airshow on July 24 in Oshkosh, Wis. The show was sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association.

Charlotte Cearlock, an associate faculty member in developmental education at John Wood Community College, recently attended the Orlando on the Farm STEM professional development event sponsored by the American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture. The event provided training to integrate science, technology, engineering and math with agriculture, with the help of American beef cattle ranchers, researchers, nutritionists and veterinarians. Cearlock is JWCC's lead technical math instructor and has worked with JWCC staff to create more than 100 supplemental math videos, which are stored in the JWCC electronic library.

Retirements

Ann O'Sullivan, an assistant dean and associate professor at Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing and Health Sciences, retired Aug. 5 after 28 years of service to the college and 45 years in the nursing profession. She has a master of science degree in medical-surgical nursing and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Northern Illinois University. She is also a certified nurse educator and a nurse executive-baccalaureate certified. She began working at Blessing-Rieman College as an assistant professor in 1989, then as an associate professor and, in 2002, O'Sullivan was named assistant dean of support services.

Cathi Kaesberg is retiring from Illinois State University Mennonite College of Nursing after 29 years of teaching. She had been the success plan coordinator since 2001. She also received the Dr. Kathleen Hogan Teaching Excellence Award 19 times, which is voted by senior students. Kaesberg is a Quincy Notre Dame graduate. She has an undergraduate nursing degree from St. John's College of Nursing in Springfield, Ill., and a graduate degree in nursing from Saint Louis University.
