QUINCY -- An Illinois Department of Transportation project to replace a bridge will close a portion of 24th Street (Ill. 96) beginning Monday, Aug. 14.

Work on the bridge, located just north of 24th Street and Wismann Lane over Cedar Creek, is expected to last until late November. The bridge replacement will close nearly a mile of 24th Street (Ill. 96) for the duration of the project. Advanced warning signs and message boards will notify motorists of the road closing and the detour.

Motorists can expect delays. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones and watch for workers and equipment.

The contractor on the $1.16 million project is County Contractors Inc. of Quincy.
