Autism advocates performing at Hannibal Arts Council

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- The Hannibal Arts Council in partnership with Shine A Light On Autism will present a program and performance featuring autism advocates Taylor Sweeting and Antonio Penaherrera at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main St.

Sweeting, who lives with autism, will present a program titled Why Can't You Understand Me?

Sweeting is a Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional and is the NCCAP Activities Coordinator at Illini Community Hospital's Worthington Square Geriatric Psychiatric Unit/Acute Care Unit in Pittsfield, Ill. He is an active autistic advocate and autistic culture enthusiast.

Penaherrera, who also lives with autism, will present a performance at 7 p.m. showcasing his musical abilities on guitar, harmonica, mandolin and piano. Sweeting, Penaherrera and Penaherrera's parents, Jose and Diane, will be available for a question-and-answer session following the events.
