DANVILLE, Ill. -- The Quincy Gems scraped together seven hits but had only one run to show for it during a 5-1 loss to Danville in a Prospect League Sunday at Danville Stadium.

The Gems had only one extra-base hit -- a two-out solo home run by Drue Galassi in the top of the ninth inning. Before Galassi's blow, Dans pitchers had retired 11 Quincy batters in a row.

It's the third straight loss for the Gems (13-30), who remain 11 games behind West Division leader Lafayette with 17 games remaining to be played.

The magic number for the Gems to be eliminated from postseason contention is nine.

The game was scoreless until Danville scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Dans (22-21) scored their final two runs in the seventh when Michael Rothmund singled home James Govern and Nick Webre scored on Christopher Monasmith's fielder's choice.

Blake Hart was only Gems player with multiple hits, finishing 2 for 3.

Kolton Gonnerman pitched the first five innings, striking out three and walking three, while scattering five hits and allowing two runs -- one earned.

Gonnerman was relieved by right-hander Connor Taylor. Making his first appearance with the Gems, Taylor gave up four hits and three earned runs while striking out two in the sixth and seventh. Elias Martinez recorded one strikeout in a scoreless eighth.

Quincy returns home to play Terre Haute at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday. After that, the Gems will play five road games in five days.
