Seven-run sixth ruins Griggsville-Perry's upset bid

CONCORD, Ill. -- Griggsville-Perry led 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning but lost 10-3 to Triopia in a Class 1A Triopia Regional baseball semifinal.

Ian Smith hit a two-run home run in the second inning to put Griggsville-Perry (5-16) on top. Triopia scored a run in the fourth, but the Tornadoes responded with Ryan Kelley's RBI single in the top of the fifth. The Trojans tied the score in the fifth. One run scored when a Triopia batter struck out with the bases loaded but he reached base on a dropped third strike. A passed ball led to the second run.

Triopia then put the game away the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on four hits, two walks and an error.

Alec Coil picked up the victory for Triopia, pitching five innings of relief.

Smith finished with three hits for Griggsville-Perry.
