CONCORD, Ill. -- Chloe Alsup went 4 for 4 with three singles and double to help the Brown County softball team to a 9-7 victory over Triopia in the first game of a doubleheader sweep Thursday.
The Hornets won the nightcap 13-6.
In the opener, a three-run third inning, highlighted by Mariah Markert's bases-loaded walk, gave Brown County the lead for good. The Hornets extended the lead to 9-6 by scoring twice in the top of the seventh on Kylie Moorman's RBI single and Alissa Hodge's RBI groundout.
In the bottom of the seventh, Triopia turned a leadoff walk into a run, but Hodge struck out two of the final three batters she faced to strand runners at second and third.
Hodge earned the victory, striking out eight and walking two. She also went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.
In the second game, Hodge went 3 for 4 with a home run and two doubles. Brown County took control with a three runs in the fourth and then seven runs in the fifth inning. Moorman and Alsup had RBI singles in the seven-run outburst, while Markert doubled.
Moorman went 3 for 4, while Hallie Laning had two hits. Hailey Alsup struck out eight and walked none to earn the victory.
