SHELBINA, Mo. -- Patience at the plate gave the South Shelby baseball team a walk-off victory Thursday.
The Cardinals trailed Louisiana 12-8 heading to the seventh inning of a Clarence Cannon Conference matchup, but the a balk and four consecutive walks to the final four batters of the game allowed South Shelby to grab a 13-12 victory.
After a one-out single and two walks loaded the bases, Zach Breden reached on an error to allow the first run of the inning to score. A balk forced in the second run before Ransom Chapin battled back from an 0-2 count to draw a walk and reload the bases.
The next two batters each walked on four straight pitches before JJ Adams drew the game-ending walk.
Cody McKenzie had three hits, a home run, a double and four RBIs for South Shelby. Remington Feldewerth had two hits for Louisiana.
The teams combined to walk 29 batters, commit 15 errors and allow 14 unearned runs.
