Mustangs erupt in sixth inning

MACOMB, Ill. -- A seven-run sixth inning helped the Unity softball team pull away for a 14-5 victory over Macomb Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Mustangs led 6-5 before the first four batters of the sixth reached base, including Jordan Hildebrand, who hit an RBI double, and Addison Miller, who hit a two-run home run. Later in the inning, freshman Katlyn Corrigan hit a two-run home run for a 13-5 lead.

Miller hit her second home run of the day in the seventh, a solo blast.

Haley Miller led Unity (9-2) at the plate by going 4 for 5, while Addison Miller and Corrigan had two his apiece.

Jamie Ellerman went the distance to record the victory, striking out nine batters and walking three. She struck out the last four batters she faced.
