JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Emily Griskell threw a complete-game shutout to lead the Quincy University softball team to a 5-0 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Lincoln on Wednesday.
The bats came to life for a 12-5 win nightcap as the Hawks completed the sweep.
Griskell allowed just three hits in the opener and didn't issue a walk while striking out five to keep Lincoln (5-43) from having any scoring chances.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning, when the Hawks (15-23) provided some run support for their pitcher. Abby Burton led off the inning with a bunt single, then rounded the bases and scored as Lincoln committed a pair of throwing errors trying to get her out.
Five more base hits pushed across three runs for QU in the inning, highlighted by Samantha Goble's single that drove home both Jackie Farbak and Kaylee Jones.
The Hawks added an insurance run in the seventh on Lindsey Greene's RBI double.
The offense got started more quickly in the nightcap, as QU scored a pair of runs in the top of the first when Farbak stole home before Jones scored on Greene's fly out to left field.
Lincoln scored three runs of their own in the second, but the Hawks took the lead back in the third thanks to an RBI triple by Dana Walsh and then a groundout by Burton that scored Walsh from third base to make the score 4-3.
QU would add runs in the fourth and the fifth to make it a three-run game before breaking the gap open with six runs in the sixth highlighted by two-run singles from Jones and Greene.
Meghan Quirk got the win in game two, allowing five runs on nine hits and seven walks over seven innings.
