HANNIBAL, Mo. -- A driver suffered minor injuries Sunday after swerving to avoid hitting a deer.
Omar Lopez, 48, of Hannibal, was driving on Route MM three miles west of Hannibal about 2:30 a.m. when a deer appeared on the road, a Missouri State Highway Patrol report said. Lopez swerved to miss the deer, then his 2001 Dodge Dakota traveled off the right side of the road and overturned.
The driver was wearing a seat belt, and his vehicle was considered a total loss. Lopez was transported by a private vehicle to Hannibal Regional Hospital for his injuries.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department assisted.
