QUINCY -- The Quincy University baseball team scored two runs in the eighth inning to break a tie score and beat Southern Indiana 4-2 on Sunday in the third game of a Great Lakes Valley Conference weekend series at QU Stadium.

The Hawks (10-8) got back-to-back one-out singles from Jack Klages and Jake Walters in the eighth. Troy Wehde then hit a single to the right side to score Klages and put QU ahead. David Hayes hit a single into right-center field to score Walters and provide extra cushion.

Cole Crawford got three strikeouts in the ninth inning for his third save. Karl Hirsch picked up the victory after throwing a scoreless eighth in relief of Hunter Haynes, who struck out nine batters and allowed a pair of runs in seven hits in seven innings.

Walters hit his 11th home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth, the Hawks' first hit of the game. He ranks second in NCAA Division II in home runs per game.
