CANTON, Mo. -- Megan Creek threw a complete game to lead the Culver-Stockton College softball team to a 4-2 victory over Mount Mercy in the first game of Sunday's Heart of America Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Wildcats then smacked five home runs in the nightcap in a 15-7 victory.
The Wildcats (8-3, 3-1 Heart) scored three runs in the third inning of the opener, highlighted by Cassie Burris' two-run triple. Mount Mercy (0-12, 0-6 Heart) responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, but Creek shut down the Mustangs the rest of the way. She allowed just one earned run on six hits over seven innings.
C-SC smacked eight extra-base hits in the second game. Avery Johnson and Morgan Ledbetter each hit two home runs and combined to drive in eight runs. Burris added a solo home run in the third inning. The score was tied at seven going into the bottom of the fourth, but the Wildcats scored once in the fourth and seven times in the fifth.
Kirsten Burris had two hits, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Katie Kroll had three hits and two runs batted in.
Madeline Hager got her first victory in relief of starter McKena O'Donnell, throwing two scoreless innings and allowing just two hits.
