QUINCY -- The Quincy University softball team split a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday, winning 6-5 in the opener on Jackie Farbak's infield single in the eighth inning but losing the second game 13-1 to close the first weekend of Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Hawks trailed 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth when three straight singles loaded the bases for Abby Burton, who roped a three-run double to right-center to tie the game.

Reliever Emily Griskell held the Rangers without a hit over the next three innings, sending the game into the bottom of the eighth.

Dana Walsh led off the eighth with a single through the middle, went to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on a groundout. Then on the first pitch, Farbak beat out an infield single, allowing Walsh to score the game-winning run.

QU (7-9, 2-2 GLVC) scored its first two runs on an RBI double by Kylie Powers in the first inning and an RBI double by Jessica Poore in the third.

Griskell tossed seven and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits with six walks and four strikeouts.

Poore had two singles and a double, Burton had two hits and three RBIs and Powers had two hits and an RBI.

The Rangers scored two runs in each of the first two innings of the second game before blowing the game open with a nine-run fifth inning. The Hawks scored their lone run in the fourth inning as Poore drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a wild pitch.

Tiffany Harbison was saddled with the loss, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work.
