QUINCY -- The John Wood Community College baseball team opened Midwest Athletic Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader split against visiting Lincoln Community College.
In the first game, JWCC (7-4) rode the strong arm of sophomore Dylan Chisholm, who tossed six scoreless innings in a 10-0 victory. Chisholm struck out four and gave up four hits.
The Trail Blazers struck for seven runs in the third inning, then added three more in the bottom of the sixth to end the game due to mercy rule. Alejandro Garcia had three hits and drove in two runs for JWCC, with Jose Hernandez adding two hits and Blaine Ouber and Cornelius Lee each driving in two runs.
Lincoln (8-2) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning of the second game to prevail 10-7. John Wood tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when pinch-hitter Austin Bargen drew a bases-load walk on a 3-2 pitch.
Kaleb Bradshaw and Ouber each had two hits to pace JWCC. Bradshaw was tagged with the loss.
